I don't claim to understand the game of Cricket, but this is an interesting little game nonetheless. For the most part, it's a game of batting skill. From what I gather, you (the batter) are supposed to keep the guy throwing the ball (the bowler) from being able to knock over your little sticks (wickets, I think). And if you manage to hit the ball, you can run to a base to score extra points. You can either hit defensively or offensively, depending on the type of bowler you're facing. In 2-player mode, one player gets to be the bowler, as well.
